About Dr. Neil Brown

Dr. Neil Brown is a board-certified neurosurgeon and nationally recognized biomechanics expert who has spent more than 30 years diagnosing and surgically treating complex neurological disorders, spinal conditions, and traumatic injuries. Throughout his distinguished career, he has earned a reputation for combining exceptional clinical expertise with advanced scientific analysis, making him a trusted neurological surgery expert witness for attorneys handling complex personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice litigation.

What distinguishes Dr. Brown from many neurosurgical experts is his rare combination of medical and scientific credentials. In addition to earning his Doctor of Medicine, he holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, a Master of Science in Physics, and a PhD in Medical Biophysics. This multidisciplinary foundation enables him to evaluate not only the medical aspects of a case but also whether the biomechanics and physical forces involved are scientifically consistent with the alleged injuries. As a biomechanics expert witness, his expertise is particularly valuable in cases involving traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries, disc herniations, brachial plexus injuries, motor vehicle collisions, slip-and-fall incidents, and other complex causation questions.

Dr. Brown completed his neurosurgical residency at Western University, one of Canada's premier neurosurgical training programs, known for excellence in cerebrovascular, spinal, trauma, tumor, and peripheral nerve surgery. During his residency, he also completed advanced spinal instrumentation training at the internationally respected Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and the American Board of Spine Surgery, reflecting his commitment to the highest standards of neurosurgical practice.

Since beginning his expert witness practice in 2008, Dr. Brown has participated in more than 385 personal injury legal cases and over 350 workers' compensation matters, and has testified in more than 175 depositions and 20 trials. He has completed hundreds of independent medical examinations and medical record reviews, particularly involving workers' compensation, personal injury, catastrophic injury, and medical malpractice claims. Plaintiff and defense attorneys rely on his opinions because of his objectivity, scientific rigor, and commitment to clear, impartial analyses supported by established medical literature and biomechanical principles.

Dr. Brown is also an active member of the American Society of Biomechanics, an organization whose membership reflects significant peer-reviewed contributions to biomechanics. His scientific background allows him to critically evaluate injury mechanisms using established biomechanical thresholds, helping attorneys determine whether an injury is medically and scientifically consistent with the reported event. This scientific perspective further strengthens his work as a biomechanics expert witness in cases where injury mechanism and causation are disputed.

Licensed to practice medicine in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and Missouri, Dr. Brown provides expert witness services to attorneys nationwide. As a certified neurosurgeon with extensive courtroom and case-review experience, he provides informed analysis across complex medical and legal matters. Whether reviewing medical records, evaluating standards of care, determining injury causation, performing independent medical examinations, or providing deposition and trial testimony, he remains committed to delivering objective, evidence-based opinions that help attorneys, judges, and juries understand even the most technically challenging medical issues with clarity and confidence.
